Harding School
Transforming TK courtyard, and unused patches of land into vibrant habitat.
Our partnership with Harding School began with the landscaping of a newly constructed outdoor classroom in 2023. Through a community-based effort, the outdoor classroom was landscaped with native plants that could withstand daily encounters with little hands and feet. Brimming with native grasses to crawl through, flowering plants that attract butterflies and birds, and foundational shrubs that provide habitat, the outdoor classroom is a place where kids and nature thrive together. The partnership continued with the planting of a perimeter fence line of the school with native shrubs and trees that provide habitat and shade to the playground and a natural border between the school and the street. Our latest project is revitalizing an overlooked patch of land along an alleyway on the south side of campus. Once a weed-filled space with untended shrubs, this “schoolyard forest” is on its way to becoming a vibrant native habitat, with newly planted oaks, native shrubs, and wildflowers. These plants cast much needed shade on several classrooms, and provide a biodiverse corridor for students to walk through on their way to school.
